MediStar Awards celebrates 5th anniversary
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 1, 2011) The MediStar Awards, the region’s premier venue for recognizing excellence in the business of healthcare will celebrate its 5th anniversary on March 29, 2011 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown. With a record number of attendees and a sold out ceremony, the MediStar Awards features networking with more than 500 healthcare professionals and executives, a cocktail reception, and the presentation of eight awards to the “best of the best” in our region.
The MediStar Awards were originally created by Sandy Wensley, the former owner of Medical News in 2007. Wensley said, “the creation of the premiere recognition event for healthcare in our region – The MediStar Gala – allowed us to showcase the stars of our community. It was both gratifying and exciting, with each year’s event being more successful than the last.”
In years past, Wensley created themed ceremonies in order to celebrate local healthcare leaders. The first MediStar Awards was held at the Palace Theatre, with Heather French Henry serving as emcee. Guests enjoyed listening to the "Doctors of Swing," a 16-member physician band performing swing music of the 40's, 50's and 60's. MediStar ice sculptures were donated and sculpted by culinary program students in the Garde Manger class under the direction of Chef Robert Beighey, Sullivan University System.
The third annual MediStar Awards Gala: 009 Licensed to Health at Casino Royale was held at the Kentucky Center. Medical News presented a special emcee, John Allen, a nationally known impersonator of Sean Connery's James Bond.
Tom McMahon and Ben Keeton, owners of Medical News, hosted the fourth annual MediStar Awards at the Galt House, utilizing a more traditional award ceremony format.
McMahon said, “the change was recommended by the members of the Medical News board of trustees who wanted to simplify planning and preparations and also reduce cost.”
Keeton said, “we heard from sponsors and attendees that the most valuable part of the ceremony is recognizing excellence in healthcare and networking with others after the ceremony. We allow for both with this new format.”
